Engage with students
Host interns
In order to link the academic curriculum with real-world experience, our students complete one internship in each of the public, private, and nonprofit sectors throughout their time in the program. Next Generation Service Corps members have a wide variety of backgrounds and interests, representing over 150 different majors at ASU. Through an average commitment of 70-120 hours per internship, they are well positioned to make meaningful contributions to your organization.
Handshake is ASU’s primary resource for recruiting student talent. All Community Partners interested in posting internships should follow the instructions linked here to get started on Handshake.
This overview provides more information about hosting NGSC interns. Once you have an internship posting live on Handshake, please email the posting link to Kim Baldwin, Director, at kim.baldwin@asu.edu so we can promote it with our students in our newsletter, on social media, and in Slack channels.
Connect with Mission Teams
Mission Teams organize our NGSC students into groups based on their interest in deepening and broadening their knowledge about a particular social issue. Student groups, in size 2-20+, engage in student-led exploration, research, and solutions with community partners, university affiliates, and the public over the school year. Examples of Mission Teams include Healthcare, Education, Sustainability, STEM, Immigration, LGBTQIA, Gender Equity, and Animal Rights.
Teach workshops
NGSC students are invited to participate in leadership and professional development workshops that cover a myriad of topics helping them better understand the core values of the NGSC, character-driven leadership, collaboration, public service, student success strategies, and the nonprofit, public, private and military sectors.
We need professionals to guide, teach and facilitate these workshops each year. Additionally, we invite professionals to represent their industries and speak in various classes that students must attend while earning a Certificate in Cross-Sector Leadership through ASU's School of Public Affairs.
Engage with class projects
Many of the classes students must take to earn their Certificate in Cross Sector Leadership involve collaboration with local community partners. Partners have the opportunity to work with a team of highly motivated NGSC students who will spend the semester helping you achieve a goal set out by your organization. In our Community Impact Lab course, students use the Design Thinking method to find human-centered solutions for your organization’s challenges.
Be a keynote speaker or panelist
We invite industry leaders to be keynote speakers at our large events and/or to sit on leadership panels to inform, challenge, and inspire students. Topics include, but are not limited to:
- Corporate Social Responsibility
- Cross-Sector Leadership
- Government Careers
- Hidden Job Market
- Intersectionality of Leadership
- Networking and Social Capital
- Professionalism
- Public Service
- Social Impact
- Teamwork and Communication
- Women and Leadership

Sponsor large events
Further your organization's brand with ASU students. Your organization can be a named event sponsor to our All-Corps member events including:
- NGSC Leadership Conference (February)
- Mission Team Kick-Off (September)
- Mission Team Showcase (April)
Smaller cohort events of 80-100 students are options for sponsorship, including:
- Year 1 retreat (an overnight camp experience in northern Arizona for new NGSC members held in August)
- Year 4 retreat (a one-day storytelling workshop for Seniors held in February)
Options for podium speaking time, teaching breakout sessions, and securing attendance lists are just a few benefits of financially sponsoring an NGSC event.
