Cohort Retreats

NGSC Cohort Retreats serve as the bookends of a students NGSC experience. Retreats strengthen connections among cohort members, allow space to practice key leadership skills, reflect on their leadership journey, and deepen their understanding of character-driven leadership. These experiences, exclusive to NGSC members, are critical to the effectiveness of the program and a student's leadership development within it. Cohort Retreats have fixed dates that are released months in advance of the academic year; all members are expected to attend to remain in good standing with the program. Both fun and formative, students find Cohort Retreats to be highlights of their college experience.

Year 1 Retreat

For the Year 1 Retreat students travel up to the cool pines of northern Arizona for two days (one night) of intentional team building and leadership training with NGSC Student Leaders and staff. Students get to know their fellow NGSC members, begin to form lasting friendships, and prepare for the leadership journey of the NGSC. Transportation is provided from Phoenix to camp early in the morning on day 1 (Saturday) and returning to Phoenix by the late afternoon on day 2 (Sunday). This retreat typically takes place within the first two weeks of the semester.

Year 4 Retreat

Held during the start of the spring semester each year, students in their fourth year of the program come together for a one-day retreat that aims to strengthen connections among cohort members and deepen their understanding of the power of storytelling. This retreat takes into special consideration the threshold our Year 4 students are on as they finish out their final year of college and prepare to embark on what’s next. As such, activities are designed to respond to the particular time and space our Year 4 students are in. Specific details are shared at the start of the new academic year.
